# INTRODUCTION
This is a Postgraduate Government College for Visual Art (Professional Stream) Affiliated to University of Rajasthan. The Rajasthan School of Art is the one and only oldest institution of Rajasthan promoting Art and Culture in the State. It has running bachelor and master degree in Visual Arts Discipline with Painting, Applied Art and Sculpture courses.
# HISTORY
The Rajasthan School of Art is the oldest institution of Rajasthan promoting Art and Culture in the State. It owes its inception and growth to a great lover and patron of Art, Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II, a ruler of the erstwhile princely state of Jaipur. The School was started in 1857 A.D., initially with the name "Madarsa-e-Hunari", i.e. The Institute of Arts. In course of time, the institute became a pioneer in the field of art with as many as forty different disciplines of art and craft on its curriculum. Eventually it came to be known as "Maharaja School of Arts and Crafts" in 1886 A.D. The present institution, "Rajasthan School of Art" is the successor of the above mentioned institute which has now acquired a renowned place in the teaching and learning of Visual Arts.
The institution was running under the administrative control of Directorate, College Education, Government of Rajasthan, Jaipur as a Government under Graduate College financially. (Vide its order no. प8 (2)शिक्षा-3/2003 dated 29-08-2007) Presently the institution has been upgraded as a Postgraduate College vide Govt. of Raj. Order No. प1 (23) शिक्षा/ग्रुप-3/2013 dated 25-09-2013.
The institution has a glorious past and impeccable academic reputation. Graduates from this college are leaders in the field of contemporary art. Most of them have achieved laurels in various fields of art at the state and the national level.
The faculty members of this college are eminent artists themselves from various art disciplines. Their works have been recognized through the length and breadth of the country, some even abroad. The institution possesses well established studios for various Art disciplines supplied with most modern equipments and an amazing range of raw materials. The latest techniques in the field of art are also available to all students and they are given ample opportunities to learn and progress. The college also boasts of a rich Library stocked with about 6000 books on Fine Art subjects some most rare. The institution is progressing fast and has a bright future.
